Step 1: Apply for Adoption
The adoption process starts with an application. Our application is designed to ensure a good match between our adoptable animals and adopters. Before you begin the application, please read the following:
- Current pets, if any, must be spayed/neutered, up-to-date on shots and dogs must be on heartworm/flea/tick preventatives, unless there is a medical reason not to do so.
- If you rent, talk to your landlord about pet policies.
- Consider what animal you want to adopt and how it fits into your home and lifestyle. Research breeds, temperaments, energy levels and consider what works best for your household. Talk to a trainer, dog walker, doggie daycare, etc. to have a plan in place for your dog's long-term happiness. IF you plan on keeping your newest pet outside at all times, will will not consider your application. We consider our dogs family members; it is okay if they stay outside, but we want their home to be INSIDE- with you.
- Please make sure you are serious in applying, our volunteers spend a lot of time being thorough with each app. Before applying, please be certain that adopting is something that is right for you and your family.
- INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED!!!
Step 2: Application Review
Once your application is submitted, our volunteers will review it. We will:
- Contact your landlord, if you rent
- Contact your veterinarian- Please give them permission to speak to us, even if you’ve had dogs or cats in the past.
- Call your references
- Call you to talk about the animal of interest
- If possible, schedule a home visit
